According to a Wall Street journal Apple has been found to working with component suppliers in Asia to test an 8-inch iPad which it plans to bring in the market very soon. Apple has decided to broaden its product pipeline this time so as to maintain its supremacy in the market.

Reports from few Apple suppliers indicate that they had seen screen designs by the company’s Calif based company which revealed an 8-inch device. The Cupertino is said to be looking for suppliers for the coming device and rumors are that it is working with screen makers including Taiwan-based AU Optronics Co. and LG Display Co. of South Korea to supply the test panels.

iPad Mini features a similar kind of resolution screen as of the iPad 2 but the difference is in the size. While iPad 2 sports a 9.7 inch screen this device comes with an 8-inch screen only. While the Cupertino has always held the view that any tablet device which had smaller screen than the iPad wouldn’t be able to provide the desired effect it’s not surprising that it is itself going for the smaller screened iPad.

Apple fans are already awaiting the iPad 3′s speculated release date and now an analyst with Technology Business Research reports that the iPad mini release date would be sometime later this year. So this year seems to be quite a happening one as Apple plans to bring out its mini iPad to compete with the 7-inch Kindle Fire from Amazon and smartphones with large displays.

Update (01-march-2012): Recent reports from DigiTimes suggest that Apple would unveil 7.85 inch iPad Mini in 3rd quarter of 2012. Read more.
