This is something new on the horizon now. Some pieces of code from iOS 5.1 beta have sparked interest in the Apple processors.9To5Mac has this to report: “Going by this naming scheme, the next major iOS device processor revamp (A6, not A5X) would be called the S5L8950X. Now, we have discovered evidence that Apple is working on that specific chip. Deep in the iOS 5.1 betas (as shown below) sits references to two next-generation iOS device chips: the previously discussed S5L8945X and this brand-new S5L8950X. While nobody has found this 50X (A6) chip in the code until now, we can report that both next-generation processors entered the iOS code simultaneously. This would seem to indicate that Apple has been working on two next-generation chips.”The iPad 3 is reportedly having the A6 chipset. The claim still stays despite the new A5X coming up on the radar now. The experts think that the A5X would probably go for a device like the Apple TV 3 or for the iPad 2 updated which could come for a low price. The A6 was reported to be a quad-core processor – one that would be mightier and powerful than the A5. It was supposed to feature on the iPhone 5 features. Claims of the quad-core are now being questioned as strings and ‘dual core’ have been found in the snippets of code grabbed from deep within the iOS 5.1 code. For the moment, if you go by experts’ voice, it all looks like a bit of a confusion here. But we have our own reasons to believe that Apple is heading for both A5X and A6 because the A6 will be the foundation stone for the iPhone 5 anyway. We recently blogged about the iPad 3 parts being shipped already to the US shores. It would only be a matter of time before the official word from Apple regarding iPad 3 come out. By then, we’ll also know if Apple has been tinkering with quad-core processors really or not. The stakes are high though, as more and more Android phones are coming up with frameworks including a quad-core processor. The iOS 5.1 code has already seemed to reveal quite a lot of data about future Apple plans, devices and components. iPad 3, iPhone 5, now the A5X and A6 chipsets and quite a lot of other data has been found within the code.If you enjoyed this post, please consider leaving a comment or subscribing to the RSS feed to have future articles delivered to your feed reader.
