Xbox Live coming to Android, iOS and more?

Microsoft looks to expand reach beyond Windows PhoneMobile phones News By John McCann 1 hour ago | Tell us what you think [ 2 comments ]

Tweet xbox-to-come-to-android-and-ios Coming to a mobile phone near you.

Microsoft is looking to build on the success of 2011's biggest selling console, by rolling out its popular Xbox Live gaming platform to Android and iOS devices.

Xbox Live games are currently only compatible with Windows Phone devices, but Microsoft has realised that its huge fan base will be using a range of mobile devices. Microsoft has already released a Xbox Live app for iOS, but minus any gaming features.

A spokesperson for Microsoft said; "While the Xbox Live experiences and games always work best on the Windows platform, we understand that some Xbox fans may be using other types of devices. To satisfy that need, we are working to extend a few of our Xbox experiences and titles to other platforms."

One step forward and two steps back

This news will be music to Xbox owners' ears, as Microsoft look to build its gaming platform on the two biggest mobile operating systems in the world.

However Microsoft could be shooting itself in the foot as the Xbox Live gaming feature is a unique selling point for its Windows Phone handsets, but with plans to branch out to other operating systems sales for Windows Phone devices may decline.

Is Microsoft willing to sacrifice its Windows Phone OS in light of greater dominance in the mobile gaming arena and increased revenue via its Xbox Live channel?

Microsoft says "Xbox Live experiences and games always work best on the Windows platform", but we're not sure if this is a big enough draw for consumers to go down the Windows Phone route when other options are on the table.

2. jmace: Games for Windows Live already exists to perform that function. Sure, it's not every single Xbox game, but it uses the same Live infrastructure for voice chat and achievements, etc.

1. Surely a better first step for expanding X-Box Live games is to put them on PC.

OnLive Desktop lands on Android tablets, brings Microsoft Office

Excel excitement ensuesTablets News By Jools Whitehorn 16 hours ago | Tell us what you think [ 1 comments ]

Tweet onlive Android users can get down to business

The OnLive desktop app first launched in January, offering iPad users remote access to a full version of Windows 7, including Microsoft Office.

Android tablet users can now join the Office party, "enjoying" Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as Adobe Reader.

The service also promises cloud-enhanced web speeds of up to a gigabit, producing a cloud-accelerated connection that slashes page-loading and streaming speeds regardless of home Wi-Fi speeds.

Free basic service

The OnLive Desktop app is available now from the US Android Market for free, and there are a number of versions to suit your budget.

Desktop Standard is free, Desktop Plus is $4.99/month and Desktop Pro is coming soon at $9.99 along with 50GB of cloud storage. There will also be an Enterprise version for big businesses.

OnLive hasn't yet released details of when we'll see a UK offering, though we imagine it can't be far off.

You can see what we thought of OnLive Desktop on the iPad when we took it for a spin at CES in January, and check out the hype-tastic promo video for yourself on the OnLive Desktop site.

Samsung Galaxy S II Comes with Android 4.0 From 15 March - says Samsung Israel

According to Samsung Israel's facebook page, you'll be receiving the coveted Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich update.

The news comes from a Samsung importer in Israel, called Sunny Communications. They revealed this little piece of information on their Facebook page that the update will be releasing on March 15. Since the post is in Hebrew, here’s the quote from their Facebook page, "We promised that we're working on it. You waited patiently. On 15 March it comes: the Android version 4, ICS, tens of thousands of the devices purchased GALAXY SII cellular companies in the country or directly from us. We here are very excited for the launch, hope you :)"

But there is No official announcements have been made by Samsung regarding the full rollout schedule for Android 4.0 on the various Galaxy S II models out there. The Verge speculates that if Android 4 does indeed come to Israel on the 15th, it will also likely launch in Europe on the same day. As tends to be the case with Android phones in the U.S., our update will likely come a bit later than the 15th as the carriers continue to ensure the update works well with their networks.

Regardless, we hope to see Android 4 hitting 2011′s most popular Android headset later this month, even if it does still feature the Touchwiz custom UI overlay. We’ll bring you the goods of a U.S. release once we know more.

Samsung's First Android Galaxy player 70 plus For Dual Core Chip

Samsung’s added some serious muscle to its latest Galaxy Player. The Galaxy Player 70 Plus is their first Android PMP to run a dual-core processor, which is clocked at 1GHz. It also features the same massive, 5-inch display as the original Player 70 along with an equally gigantic 2500mAh battery.

During MWC Samsung announced the Galaxy Player Wi-Fi 4.2. Which is a very similar device to the Galaxy Player 70, The GP70 will still run Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) as its base OS:
The Samsung Galaxy Player 70 Plus , he highlights of the device are :
Android 2.3 Gingerbread with TouchWiz skin
Dual-core, 1Ghz processor
5″ LCD, 800 x 480 touch screen
5MP rear camera with  front camera for video calls
2500 mAh battery
16GB or 32GB storage options with micro SD slot.

Samsung plants to ship both 16GB and 32GB capacities, priced up at 399,000 won ($356) and 469,000 won ($418) respectively,  We do not have information about the global launch dates yet. Why do people prefer a separate media player when they’ve got smartphones with music capability is beyond us. But those who have enough money to invest in the Galaxy Player; we guarantee quality music from this device.
