Types of Computer Hardware

Computer hardware is a physical part of a computer that executes within the hardware. It is unlike computer software or data that can be frequently changed, modified or erased on a computer. Computer hardware is not frequently changed and so is stored in hardware devices such as read only memory (ROM) where it is not readily changed.

Most computer hardware is embedded and so is not visible to normal users. Below are the different types of hardware's found in a computer:

  • Motherboard: It is the central or primary circuit board making up a complex electronic system such as a computer. A motherboard is also known as a main board, logic board or system board.
  • Central processing Unit: A CPU is the main component of a digital computer that interprets instructions and process data in computer programs.
  • Random Access Memory: A RAM allows the stored data to be accessed in any order. RAM is considered as the main memory of the computer where the working area is used for displaying and manipulating data.
  • Basic Input Output System: BIOS prepares the software programs to load, execute and control the computer.
  • Power Supply: Power Supply supplies electrical energy to an output load or group of loads.
  • Video Display Controller: It converts the logical representation of visual information into a signal that can be used as input for a display medium.
  • Computer Bus: It is used to transfer data or power between computer components inside a computer or between computers.
  • CD-ROM drive: It contains data accessible by a computer
  • Floppy disk: It is a data storage device
  • Zip Drive: It is a medium capacity removable disk storage system.
  • Hard Disk: It is a non-volatile data storage system that stores data on a magnetic surface layered unto hard disk platters.

Microsoft offers Windows Home Server 2011 online evaluation

Microsoft has begun offering an online evaluation experience of Windows Home Server 2011. It lets you try at least six aspects of the operating system: adding a user, using the client Launchpad, managing PCs to ensure its health and security, protecting the server and PC's data, adding server storage capacity, and using Remote Web Access.

Over the next few weeks, Microsoft plans to update its official WHS website, adding a full introduction portal to the online experience. Until then, the evaluation is available for all at this garbled URL: online.holsystems.com/portals/sbs/whs. Microsoft says the new site "provides customers the ability to walk through both client and server interaction freely, or follow a suggested demonstration path with the evaluation manual which will also launch with the online experience."

To use the evaluation, you'll need to meet the minimum requirements, which Microsoft has also jumbled up on the site. Your OS will need to be Windows XP with CredSSP enabled, Windows Server 2003 with CredSSP enable, Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008 R2. You'll also need IE8+, Firefox 4.0+, or Chrome 10+, as well as .NET 3.5 SP1 and RDP 7.0.

Interestingly, Microsoft says it has no plans to release an evaluation version for download so that users can test the OS at home on their own hardware. This is because some of the embedded third-party codecs the company uses within WHS 2011 does not allow it to provide a trial version due to licensing agreements. The online experience manages to get around that, though the software giant does say it is working with its OEMs on additional evaluation experiences.

Windows Home Server 2011 was released on April 6, 2011. It is the successor to Windows Home Server, which was released on November 4, 2007 and was updated three times: Power Pack 1 on July 20, 2008, Power Pack 2 on March 24, 2009, and Power Pack 3 on November 24, 2009

What Are the Common Faults in Hard Disk Drive?

Is your Windows computer unbootable or unresponsive? Are you unable to get access of your valuable data stored on hard drive? This behavior can be caused by a number of issues with your hard drive. Generally, you encounter a number of BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) errors, when your hard drive comes across failure. The BIOS errors may vary, depending upon the version of BIOS, system motherboard, and system configuration. This behavior causes serious data loss situations and need hard disk data recovery to get your valuable data back.
The hard drive may prompt any of the below behaviors when it faces failure or breakdown due to any reason, either logical or physical:
  • Hard disk controller failure: It is a common prompt that makes your hard drive inaccessible and causes data loss situations. In such circumstances, you must check the data cable or interface cable of your hard drive. Try detaching and reattaching the cable to fixing it up. If the controller plug is faulty, you need to get it replaced.
  • Data Error: If you come across such kind of error, hard drive is facing CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) errors or the hard drive sectors are unreadable. You can try resolving the issue using disk repair utilities, such as ChkDsk in Windows, Disk Utility in Mac OS X, and fsck in Linux. These are built-in tools, which check the integrity and consistency of the hard drive.
  • No boot sector on disk: It occurs when the boot sector or MBR (Master Boot Record) of your hard drive gets damaged. It may occur due to various reasons, such as boot sector virus, improper system shutdown, operating system malfunction, and many alike.
  • Hard drive not detected: This issue occurs if your system BIOS is unable to detect the hard drive and boot your system through it. It may occur due to hard drive mechanical failure or hard drive crash.
All the above errors cause data loss and need hard disk recovery to be sorted out. If the data loss is caused by mechanical of physical hard drive failure, Disk Recovery service is required to repair or replace the damaged components and retrieve data from it.
On the other hand, logical disk failure failure can easily be handled by disk recovery software. They are completely safe and easy to use. The applications are capable of handling all types of logical data loss situations.
Stellar Information Systems Limited is the foremost provider of superior recovery solutions. The software are offered for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, UNIX, and Novell operating system.

Recover Hard Disk Data Solutions

People that have been using computers for some time know that at one point in their lives they experienced hard drive failure. Normally this failure is followed by loss of data or it leads to inaccessible data.
Being someone who works on projects or assignments on the computer, such a situation can be very frustrating to you. That is why one needs to know how to so that they can be able to get their projects back.
One thing that you should know is that data loss is not permanent. In some cases, it might so severe that it will need the combined efforts of a hardware and software expert.
Most of the time, the guarantee to hard disk data recovery can range form between 80 to 90%. The use of data recovery solutions can help you be able to hard disk data recovery.
The cost of such a service will be determined by several factors. The first factor that determines the cost is the amount of data that has been lost.
For example, if you have lost data that is about 30 GB, it will be cheaper than if you have lost data that amounts to about 200 GB because of the work that it entails to recover data.
Most data recovery solutions will charge you on the amount of data that you have lost. Another factor that is considered when recovering data is the type of hardware or the computer that you are using.
Some computers have a unique type of hardware which will mean that the software that is used would have to be unique. This means that the software will most probably cost more due to the fact that it is unique.
Recovery software for servers or for computers that are specific to a certain task generally cost more than the software that are used for ordinary computers.
The final factor that is put into consideration is the operating system that one uses. The Windows platform is known to be the most common operating system in the world.
With this in mind, when you are getting data recovery solutions for a Windows platform you will find that it will not cost as much as when getting the same solutions for a Mac or Linux platform.
Also, the windows platform is a user friendly operating system such that you can be able to disk recovery software without the help of a computer technician.

Hard Disk Data Recovery Experts Helping the Detectives

The advances in communication that have been made in the last two decades created a new branch of detectives. These are electronic detectives, and they are required because electronic communication almost replaced the written hard copy form of communication, the majority of corporate data only existing in electronic format. Because of this,  hard disk recovery experts have become a required aid for detectives or they became electronic detectives themselves. The computer has become a focal point for investigations or for corporations to identify their employs activities.

Nowadays, a significant part of corporate investigations is the data recovery process. Through data recovery, a volume of data can be obtained and evidence can be found in documents that might be relevant to the investigation. The data recovery process ensures a mass of important information that can be used.

There are a number of terms used to describe the data on a hard disk based on its state. "Active Data", is used to describe the data form that is accessible to the user of the computer. The term "Recovered Data" is used to describe the information that has been recovered after it has been deleted from the Active Data. This data is either in a very easy to recognize format, entire files, or an expert will be required to interpret it as it is in bits and pieces. The last type of term is "Unused" and it describes either parts of the hard disk that have never been used or parts that have been deleted from the Active Data and are available to be rewritten.

If covert corporate activities take place, then the data they leave behind will be deleted and probably the hard disk will be formatted and re partitioned to hide any traces. In this case, hard disk data recovery experts can help acquire proof by using advanced hard disk data recovery tools and their expertise. This proof might then be used to conclude a case.

Experts  can help police investigations in many cases but the most expectable are cyber crime investigations that are related to credit card information theft or online money transfers. They also help in cases of child pornography.

With computers becoming a required standard in any office and workplace hard disk data recovery experts will be tomorrows detectives in many investigations that include cyber crimes. They will be the ones that will uncover vital information for the conclusion of important cases.

Desktop Processors

There are a large number of desktop processors available and this list was generated to point out the three major categories of processors for both the Intel and AMD product lines. The three categories listed are the top performance processors, best value processors (<$250) and best budget processors (<$100). This allows users to select the CPUs best suited to their budgets. If you are looking at purchasing a fully built desktop computer or building one yourself, check out which processors you should be looking to fit your price range.

Outdated Processors
Processors that fall into this category are generally no longer in production by the manufacturers and are typically sold in either budget systems or older refurbished systems. Machines with these processors will typically take longer to run application and possibly might not even run some of software on the market today. It is best to try and avoid systems with these processors unless you want to use a computer for the very basic functions such as word processing and general web browsing.
  • AMD Athlon 64 (Non-Dual Core/X2 Models)
  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 (Older Socket A Models/DDR Memory RAM Models)

Intel to Release Six-Core Chips for Desktops in a Year

One projects that Intel Corp. release its first microprocessors of six-core for desktop machines in the second quarters of 2010, almost two years after the company began forwardings of the pieces of six-core for the waiters x86 at end high.

The processors of Intel Gulftown - which will be lower-in compatible with infrastructure LGA1366 - will have six physical cores with, thus, able licence by technology of Hyper-Threading to treat to twelve wire at the same time. According to a news-history by the Web site of HKEPC, which quotes manufacturers of mainboard, the processors called of Gulftown made using transformer technology 32nm, will be launched in Q2 2010, one year as of now.

The piece of Gulftown belongs to the family of Westmere of the microprocessors which have some microarchitectural advantages compared to the currently available processors of the core i7 which belong to the family of Nehalem. Gulftown will significantly amplify the execution of the microprocessors while remaining in the same thermal envelope of 130W.

Intel Begins Applying 'Stars' Ratings to Microprocessors

The years after launched suppliers of microprocessor numbers of the type to judge and provide to purchasers a manner simpler to evaluate the execution of microprocessor, on April 1 Intel started to place plates of sales outlet and other publicity material in the stores showing between one to five stars. The company jazzed also to the top of its logos of piece, adding a little color to the blue of Intel of almost-uniform.

The problem is triple: on the one hand, him 's almost impossible so that even the experienced enthusiasts test and with distinguish two almost identical processors, which now employ a vertiginous choice of devices to be different: the number of cores, their frequency of clock, quantity of the hiding-place level-2 and level-3, the speed of the interconnection, the interface of memory and speed, as well as of other devices such as hyperthreading and pushed turbo . Differences can be established by the applications to simulate and real evaluation, that the sites as ExtremeTech run in thimbles.

With a retailer like the best purchase, however, such reference marks are seldom, if ever, so with the user; The OEM like Hewlett-Packard and Acer are interested to have the advantages of their own packages of hardware and software.

The third exit: the number of companies of options of processor like Intel and its rival AMD offer; Intel offers a total of 30 processors of office, and 57 processors of book, not including/understanding the three processors of atom which can appear in has nettop or netbook.

Once asked, the spokesperson Bill Calder from Intel agreed that there too many was models; too many marks. Intel 'of the marks of office of S includes Pentium, Celeron, digs duet 2, digs 2 editions of end of quadruple, core i7, and core i7. The majority are concentrated on what Calder called has hero mark: the series of core. But, he added, he was too early to say older marks so, such as Celeron, would be thrown.

Him 's important so that the people understand that we 'the VE obtained all these various marks, but has us a challenge when people to come to sell, to the detail it said. Comment I distinguish Pentium and Celeron and hollow and dig duet 2 and dig quadruple 2?

During last months, Intel had revalued its marks and embarking on a rather broad effort of simplification of band, he said. The revised logo and stars classifications are small but the important components this, Calder indicated. And there will be more, it was added.

Stars , of estimate said Calder, is manner easy and intuitive to see the processors in connection with one of the others, in a way in which he said communicates execution relative, not a cost-performance type of, of thing he said. They will be applied to the products of desktop machine and book, but not the atom, it said.

The processors of office five stars include the end of the core i7 and the core i7 of Intel; the processors four stars include the series Q9300+ and E8000. The three-star processors include the Q8000 series and the E7000 series. Intel traced a more distinct line between the three and designations two stars, placing the line of Pentium in its own category two stars. At the bottom of the heap is Celeron, a piece a star.

(Some of the distinctions can seem arbitrary; three-star Q8300 is a four-core, the processor 2.5-GHz which uses a bus on the before-side 1,333-MHz with 4 Moctets of hiding-place; Q9300 four stars is identical, but includes 6 Moctets of hiding-place.)

Calder stressed that the estimates of star were not based entirely on the execution, but on devices, such as the push possibilities of turbo which allow the architecture of the core i7 to the overclock a monofil application of operation to a core. They gained 't are directly affixed with a PC, but had accompanied by the circulars of sales since the first of the month. The additional formation of sales outlet will be required, Calder indicated.

Intel 's new interior logos of Intel
Intel 's new interior logos of Intel
The revised logos remain mainly unchanged of Intel 's traditional interior logo of Intel, unless with the mark of core in shown obviousness, and the color-codes applied to help to differentiate the marks. The logo also includes has peels-far left, indicating has die-like the graph. Orientation is now horizontal, although the logo takes the same thing , of print of step or spaces it.

Intel's New

The new logos are coloured and decorative, Calder indicated.

Intel chips get new logos, star treatment

Intel presented new and more seeing together logos for their processors of consumer-level and combos of processor-cum-play of chips, with a system to hold the first role-estimate which can produce of more than trouble than councils.

The new logos comprise the logo familiar of Intel above the names sale the core i7, core 2, Centrino, Centrino 2, atom, Celeron, and Pentium, with the small copy below the qualifiers of list such as the end, the duet, the quadruple, and the vPro.

The corner upper-right of the logos show that a section of a piece die inside piece-like colors for the families of core and Centrino, but - curiously - in blue for the others.

A logo of first order does not have any family name, interior slogan just devoted Intel. All the other logos include the limit interior in the corner low-right.

While the rectangles round-bordered of occupied-glance can not gain any reward for the simple design, when slapped on the bodies of the laptops and the desktop machines on the tight racks of the best purchase of Circuit City they will provide foragers of PC of information on the actuating processor they of a purchase 'about considering.
Intel 'new logos of processor of S Intel's new processor logos

Intel 'family wide of S, all in new clothing

The new system to hold the first role-estimate, however, can finish being in rise more trouble than its value.

These rows divide the offers of desktop machine and book of Intel into five groups in the order ascending of the capacity, with Will conceal a star clinging to the lower level and the core signal-flight i7s and the core 2s being held to trust on the higher level five stars.

While the system to hold the first role-estimate is a noble goal, it has a straw mortal. The processors will inevitably slip in bottom of the scale. And when they make, their rows can change at Intel department of sale of S, but not necessarily on racks of store or salesfolks of the spirits.

When this first round of the rows expires at the end of September 2009, confusion will start. In early - October, wait even those strongly qualified, better whip-smart associates of sales of purchase to flummoxed while trying to explain why yesterday 'laptop of S with a mobile processor of three-star duet of core 2 is also able as laptop which arrived after the mobile of duet of core 2 Re-was held the first role to two.

The atoms, moreover, aren 't to hold the role-arranged first, thus put 't intend to see netbooks with such stickers any time soon. Asylum of Xeons 't however be new-logoed or to hold the role-evaluated first.

What is very well. The purchasers of Netbook have little reason to compare the execution, and the purchasers of Xeon put the 'need for T the assistance.

Intel Quietly Rolls Out Star Rating for Its Microprocessors.

Intel Corp. a new estimate of five stars for its microprocessors revealed which is conceived to simplify a choice of the microprocessors for users. Unfortunately for Intel, the new estimate of five stars still does not provide to consumers information distinct on the execution from the pieces and to promote thus confuses the choice.

Of the estimates of processor of Intel are conceived to easily help you to decide which processor is the best for your needs. Seek just stars beside the badges of processor to determine their various levels of capacity for treatment, reads an explanation to the Web site of the company.

However, actually the estimate of star imitates the numbers of the type of the processor of Intel which represent a combination of execution, power of devices and other characteristics. Each processor is assigned between one and five stars according to a combination of the devices, including cores, clock-speed, the hiding-place, and other technologies. More stars indicate larger devices and increased possibilities compared with other processors of Intel.

Consequently, the five stars always evaluating does not provide any information relating to the computing power of the central processing units of treatment: for example, Intel dig the estimate four stars of 2 devices of the duet E8000-series, while Intel dig 2 that the quadruple Q8000-series has only three stars. Moreover, of the very reduced microprocessors of tension for the books ultra-transportables - Intel dig 2 the duet SU9000-series - are arranged five stars, on line with core 2 extreme and Intel dig 2 pieces of mobile of quadruple.

While the estimate of five stars is easy to include/understand by the inexperienced purchasers, it will not make it possible customers with knowledge to choose the good combination of the execution, the power and other characteristics of the microprocessors. Consequently, the reasons of its execution are not exactly clear.
